Boilerplate

One line: Gratitoo is the first app built for savoring: the research backed practice for improving happiness.

One paragraph: Gratitoo is a design forward iPhone app for savoring: noticing what’s good and holding on to it. Each night opens with a short story from a different part of the world, a quick check-in, and a moment worth writing down. Entries stay on the device, the intelligence that reads them runs entirely on device, and Circles share only what users choose, protected with end-to-end encryption. The whole app, including its 3D night sanctuary, was designed and built by one person with SwiftUI, SceneKit, and Apple’s on-device foundation models. Gratitoo is free on the App Store with an optional Pro subscription.

Story angles

The first savoring app

Meditation apps are built around what’s wrong. Gratitoo is built around what’s right. Savoring has been studied for over thirty years, and a 2026 meta analysis of twenty randomized trials across 4,805 people found savoring practices meaningfully lift positive emotion.

One person, a night sky, and Apple’s newest stack

The entire app, from the hand built 3D night sanctuary to the on-device intelligence, was designed and built by a single developer using SwiftUI, SceneKit, and Apple’s foundation models.

Privacy as architecture

The journal is private by default. The AI runs on device. Sharing with a Circle is end-to-end encrypted, readable only by the people invited. Optional backup goes to the user’s own iCloud.

The science, briefly

Savoring is a distinct, trainable skill, studied since Bryant first named it in 1989, and largely separate from coping. Research links savoring to happiness more strongly than obtaining good things, and a 2026 meta analysis of twenty randomized controlled trials found savoring interventions produce a medium sized lift in positive emotion. The benefits build over about a month of steady practice, which is why Gratitoo is built around a gentle thirty day arc.
